Nursery Rhymes

Have you ever noticed how violent the old nursery rhymes are?

"Ladybug, ladybug fly away home,
Your house is on fire and your children are gone."
or...
"Jack fell down and broke his crown
And Jill came tumbling after."
then there's...
"Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the King's horses, And all the King's men
Couldn't put Humpty together again!"

and of course...
"London Bridge is falling down,
Falling down, falling down,
London Bridge is falling down,
My fair Lady."

let's not forget...
"Rock a bye baby on the tree top,
When the wind blows the cradle will rock,
When the bough breaks the cradle will fall,
And down will come baby, cradle and all."

last but not least...
"There was an old woman who lived in a shoe,
She had so many children she didn't know what to do!
So she gave them some broth without any bread,
And she whipped them all soundly and sent them to bed!"

Most can be attributed to Mother Goose.
I started to notice this when my daughter was very small and I would say these aloud to her.
Shortly after the realization hit, I stopped.
I never researched the reasons or the meanings, of which I'm sure there are many.

It just kinda creeps me out.
